On Friday, 27 March 2026, the MRC Offices in Nelson Mandela Drive, Alberton, were buzzing with purpose, courage, and community spirit as the MRC Community Blood Donation Day took place. G&S Insurance Brokers was honoured to stand alongside the MRC team and many other generous donors in this inspiring initiative to help boost South Africa’s blood reserves ahead of the busy Easter Weekend.
For us at G&S Insurance, this wasn’t just another community event in Alberton on the calendar, it was a moment that reminded us of the power of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
A Proud Moment for the G&S Insurance Family
We are thrilled to share that 12 of our team members rolled up their sleeves and donated blood, with several doing so for the very first time. The excitement, nervous laughter, and proud smiles told a story of bravery and unity.
Moments like these remind us why we call ourselves the G&S Family. When we show up, we show up together.

Misunderstandings About Blood Donation
One thing that became clear during the event is how much uncertainty still exists around the benefits of donating blood. Many people don’t realise that donating blood is not only life‑saving for others, but it can also be surprisingly good for your own health.
Here are a few lesser‑known benefits of blood donation:
1. Encourages Better Blood Flow
Studies suggest that donating blood may help reduce blood viscosity, which supports healthier circulation.
2. Supports Healthy Iron Levels
Regular blood donation can help maintain balanced iron levels, which is especially beneficial for people with high iron counts.
3. A Mood Booster
Doing something meaningful releases feel‑good hormones. Knowing your single pint of blood can save up to three lives is a powerful emotional uplift.
4. A Good Excuse to Rest
While you shouldn’t operate heavy machinery or run a marathon immediately afterwards, you do get permission to take it easy for the rest of the day. A small reward for a big act of kindness.
5. A Natural Health Check
This should not be your primary objective for donating blood, but the reality is that every donation includes a mini‑health screening. Blood pressure, iron levels, pulse, and general wellness indicators are checked, giving you a quick snapshot of your health.
Looking Ahead: More Community Events in Alberton to Come
We are incredibly proud of the G&S team for showing up with such heart. This is only the beginning of the rest of our story. We plan to host many more community‑driven events in the near future, because giving back is part of who we are.
If you’d like to join us next time, we would love to have you there. Whether you’re a seasoned donor or considering your first donation, we would love to hear from you.
Together, we can make a difference, one pint, one person, one act of kindness at a time.
